SAY IT LIKE A LOCAL
Four ways to feel instantly more fluent.
Don’t memorize them all. Notice where they fit.
¿Qué onda?
“What’s up?” Easy, friendly, and a great opener.
¡Qué padre!
“That’s awesome!” Your everyday enthusiasm button.
Chido
Cool, nice, great. Short, useful, and very Mexican.
Chamba
Work or a job. “Tengo mucha chamba hoy.”
THE MOST FLEXIBLE WORD
Ahorita is a feeling, not a timestamp.
It can mean right now, in a little while, or a gently open-ended “soon.” The tone, situation, and smile do the rest.
WHEN SOMEONE SAYS “AHORITA…”
Right now · “Ahorita voy.”
In a little while · “Ahorita te marco.”
Maybe later · context will reveal the plan.
MATCH THE ENERGY
Agree, react, keep it going.
Try “¡Claro que sí!” for agreement, “¡No manches!” for surprise, and “¡Qué padre!” when something is genuinely great.
LISTENING MINI-CHALLENGE
